Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter Base
GSA Planning prepared a Review of Environmental Factors for the relocation of the Southern Region Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service (SRLSRHS) facility from its temporary position at Sydney Airport to Cape Banks, La Perouse. The SRLSRHS is a state-wide operation, undertaking helicopter rescue activities along the eastern coastline and throughout NSW. In order to determine the suitability of the Cape Banks site, GSA Planning examined Local and State Planning Controls, as well as Commonwealth Acts and Regulations.
Various community groups, stakeholders and Government agencies were also consulted throughout the process, including NSW Golf Club; Local Residents; Civil Aviation Safety Authority; Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources; and National Parks and Wildlife Services. GSA Planning conducted an assessment on the likely impacts of the proposed activity, an Environmental Planning Assessment and a Statement of Environmental Effects.
The overall outcome of the consultations and assessment confirmed the suitability of the site for the proposed use and it was considered appropriate from a flora and fauna, acoustic, views, traffic, aeronautical operations and heritage point of view.
